Samantha is on cloud nine

Samantha, the heroine of ‘Baana Kathadi’, directed by debutant director Badri Venkatesh, is on clound nine.

Despite the vast age difference, the director of VTV’s Telugu version apparently wanted to cast Trisha opposite Naga. As the actress was unavailable due to her Hindi film commitments, the role landed in Samantha’s kitty!

Samantha is said to be a keen student who follows the instructions of her director truthfully. The shrewd Samantha has already bagged a couple of offers, even before the release of her first film in Tamil.

She has been signed up to play the lead role in ‘Moscowin Kaaviri’, the film which marks the directorial debut of cinematographer Ravivarman.

‘Baana Kathadi’ also marks the debut as hero of Atharva, the lanky son of actor Murali, who has been in the industry now for the past twenty-five years. She is all set to make her debut as heroine in Tollywood as well. Very few heroines get to make their debut almost at the same time in Tamil and Telugu films. Samantha would be playing Trisha’s role in the Telugu remake of ‘Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya’ opposite Naga Chaitanya, son of superstar Nagarjuna.

Bana Kaathadi audio launched

The audio launch of Sathyajothi Films’ Baana Kaathadi was a glittering affair at the Sathyam Cinemas today (April 30) morning.

The film is the launch pad of actor Murali’s son Atharva who debuts opposite Samantha who has acted in the Telugu version of Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya.

The audio was launched by Abirami Ramanathan and received by L Suresh. TG Thiagarajan’s sons Arjun and Sendhil have turned produced in the third generation with this movie.

Thiagarajan revealed, “26 years ago when we launched Mani Ratnam’s first film we went to meet Illayaraja for the music and Yuvan and Karthik used to be kids playing around. Today I can hardly believe that Yuvan is scoring the music for the first production of my own sons and we are launching Murali’s son Atharva, in the same manner that our production house had Murali as a hero decades ago.”

Yuvan has also sung one of the songs in the film. A trailor and three songs were shown which were appreciated by all present. The dignitaries included Sivasakhti Pandian, Kalaipuli Sekar, Murali, Kaja Moideen, VC Guhanathan, Vikraman, Snehan, Na Muthukumar, Vijaykumar and T Siva amongst others.

The film is set in North Chennai and is about the life of a happy go lucky youth and is directed by Badri Venkatesh who was formerly teaching at the Film Institute. Murali was ecstatic on the occasion, “I am very happy that my son is taking over my profession. Badri has been very professional in his approach and held a three month workshop to teach him the nuances of acting. I am happy my son is a better dancer than I was!”

Commenting on the evergreen looks of the proud father, Vikraman quipped, “Atharva need not learn anything from his dad but could just pick up the secret of how to look like a college boy even at age 50!”

Sivasakthi Pandian lauded the fact that Atharva was the third generation to be in films in the same way as Arjun and Sendhil were in the Thiagarajan family. One song in the film has been shot in Gujarat in the famous Kite festival there. Prasanna plays an important role in the film but was missing at the audio launch. The camera work has been done by Richard M Nathan ( of Angadi Theru fame) and the editing by Suresh Urs.
