It was Simbhu Devan, the director of Imsai Arasan 23am Pulikesi, who revived the genre of full-length periodical movies. He is at it again as his next venture Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam is ready to hit the screens.

Produced by Kalpathi S Agoram for AGS Entertainment, Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam is a western theme with a Tamil flavour which has Raghava Larencce sharing the screen with Padmapriya, Lakshmi Rai and Sandhya.

A comical film, it features Manorama, Nasser, Saikumar, Mouli and Delhi Ganesh in pivotal roles. The music is scored by G V Prakashkumar while lyrics are by ‘Kaviperarasu’ Vairamuthu.

Says Simbhu Devan, ‘The last cowboy movie in Kollywood was released in 1971 and it had actor Jai Shankar playing the lead. I want to revive the genre and the end product is Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam.’

On roping in Larencce for the lead role, he says, ‘I chose Larencce to play the lead because of two reasons. First is style, a cowboy has a lot of style, and Larencce who is a good dancer, is very stylish. The other reason why I chose him was because I was looking for someone whom the audience would be able to accept as one among them.’

Adding more on the film, he says, ‘Cowboy films are a raritry in Tamil cinema. Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam will fill the void. It is entertaining and enthralling. All the characters have been taught to ride horses, be part of stunt sequences too.’

Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam - Rough & Tough

After 'Imsai Arasan 23am Pulikesi' and 'Arai En 305il Kadavul', filmmaker Simbu Devan is back with a cowboy movie set in the 17th century. Titled 'Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam', the movie produced by Kalpathi S Agoram for AGS Entertainment has Raghava Larencce, Padmapriya, Lakshmi Rai and Sandhya playing the lead roles.

Humour has always been Simbu Devan’s forte. He says, "I have my own identity. Audience asks for clean humour and I give it to them through my movies."

"Since my childhood, I have been fond of cowboy movies. I love reading cowboy stuff in comics and novels. I have always wished to make a comedy movie on them. 'Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam' is a product of that wish,’ says Simbu Devan, who started his career as a cartoonist with a popular Tamil weekly.

A comical film, 'Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam' also features Nasser, Saikumar, Mouli and Manorama in pivotal roles. The look of the film is designed by art director Muthuraj, the man behind the Malayalam mega venture 'Pazhassi Raja'.

"After ‘Imsai Arasan 23am Pulikesi’ and ‘Arai En 305il Kadavul’, I took my time to research about cowboys. I googled for minute details about them and watched a lot of cowboy movies," Simbu Devan says and adds:

"I am thankful to producer Kalpathi S Agoram. He listened to my story for just 15 minutes and agreed to produce it."

Not ready to divulge the movie’s story, he says, "Everything about the film is unique. All the characters have some specialty in them. We have used over 100 varieties of hats and different tattoos." "Fantasy films involving huge star cast are no easy tasks. We have worked hard to get the desired effect on screen," he adds.

On Larencce and other lead players, he says, "Larencce has proved that he is not just a good dancer, but an excellent actor as well. All the actresses have given their best shot. I am sure the audience is going to enjoy it immensely."

Heaping laurels on art director Muthuraj, the director says, "His extraordinary talent is sure to get noticed once the movie hits the screens. His sets are meticulously authentic and provide the film with a distinct tone." He adds: "Also the percussion instruments that music composer G V Prakash has used for the background score are sure to floor you."

"The last cowboy movie in Kollywood was released in 1971 and it had actor Jai Shankar playing the lead. I want to revive the genre and the end product is ‘Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam’. Hence I know I have a responsibility to live up the expectations of the audience," Simbu Devan concludes with all hope.

Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam-Tamil Movie to release on May 7

The Tamil movie Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam directed by Chimbudevan is to be released on May 7. This will be a hilarious take on cowboy films with choreographer-turned-actor Raghavendra Lawrence donning the lead role.

The sensational hotties – Lakshmi Rai, Padmapriya and Sandhya have starred opposite him in female lead. G.V. Prakash’s musical score has already topped the charts of audio markets and has indeed raised everyone’s expectations on this film.

Followed by the grand success of ‘Imsai Arasan 23m Pulikesi’ and ‘Arai En 305il Kadavul’, Chimbu Devan is now ready with the release of his third film ‘Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam’.

The film was supposed to hit screens during last week of March and couldn’t make it due to the IPL mania. Now, the producers have decided to release the film on May 7 as they feel that it can be the right time to attract children and family audiences for summer vacations.
