Raama Narayanan and the big stars

Tamil Film Producers’ Council President Raama Narayanan is the Guinness World Record holder for having directed the maximum number of films, which account for a whopping 119 as on date. The record still holds good despite the fact that the director hasn’t been into direction for the past few years.

He has now returned back to direction by directing ‘Kutti Pisasu’, which would be his 120th film as a director.

“In case the law protecting animals from getting exploited prevents me from casting them in my films, I’d make film starring a ‘car’. If that also is banned, I’d switch over to cycle; I would never stop,” said Narayanan.

He was speaking at the audio-launch of ‘Kutti Pisasu’, which was held at the now-famous Sathyam Cinemas auditorium a couple of days ago. The audio-cassettes and CDs were released jointly by directors K. Balachander and Bharathiraaja and were accepted by Shankar and ‘Abirami’ Ramanathan, president of Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners’ Association.

I have never waited for the call-sheets of big stars. Instead, I opted to shoot films involving animals in a big way and tasted success in almost all my endeavours.

At present, strict laws prevent me from using any animal for shooting in my films and I have used a ‘car’ in a main role in the film ‘Kutty Pisasu’. In case using cars is banned, I’d go for cycle”, said the veteran.

He signed off with a categorical statement that he would not quit film industry till his last breathe. Hats off Rama Narayanan Sir!

‘Kutti Pisasu’, a big attempt

The name - Rama Narayanan needs no introduction in Tamil film industry. Having successfully directed over 100 films, he is back, to do a movie of his favourite genre- a thriller which has loads of computer graphics.

“Titled ‘Kutti Pisasu’, the film is being made using state-of-the-art animation and graphic technology”, informs the president of the all powerful Tamil Film Producers Council, the apex body of producers in Kollywood.

Baby’ Keerthika, who is known for her dancing skills, is playing the title role. The cast concludes Ramji, Ramya Krishnan, Sangeetha, 'Ganja' Karuppu, Kaveri, Riyaz Khan, Nasser and Delhi Ganesh. Deva is scoring the music while K S Selvaraj cranks the camera.

“The Tamil audience is well-informed by watching movies like Avatar. Hence there is great responsibility on our shoulders to render a quality product in this genre. ‘Kutti Pisasu’ would have scintillating graphic and pulsating sequences that would appease both children and elders alike,” he says.

“The highlight of the movie is a 18-feet giant called 'Car Man' fighting and dancing like Michael Jackson”, Rama Narayanan says and adds, “there are enough scenes involving snakes and magicians too”.

Big guns hail Rama Narayanan

Rama Narayanan was showered with praises at the audio launch of 'Kutti Pisasu', the 120th directorial venture of the filmmaker, in Chennai today.

The event was attended by many prominent persons of Tamil film industry including K Balachander, Bharathiraja, Shankar and Vairamuthu.

In his address, Balachander said, "I always had a fear for computer graphics. But Rama Narayanan is one rare filmmaker who executes them well in his movies."

Echoing the same view was Bharathiraja. "The use of graphics in ‘Kutti Pisasu’ is awesome and breathtaking".

Shankar said, "When I started my career as an actor in drama troupes, I remember appearing in a scene for a Rama Narayanan's movie in the 1980s. He is good at encouraging new talent and also is a patient filmmaker."

Vairamuthu described Rama Narayanan as a man with compassion and humanity. The president of Tamil Film Producers Council is good at brokering peace, he said.

The audio was released jointly by Bharathiraja and Balachander and was received by Shankar and producer-director Amirtham. The movie which would feature state-of-the-art computer graphics features a young girl playing the lead role. The music is by Deva.
