The Tamil film Pen Singam had a special guest while shooting at the AVM Studios. The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi spent about two hours at the AVM Studios to watch the shooting of Pen Singam. The CM had written the story Suruli Malai several years ago and Pen Singam is based on that story. Incidentally, Karunanidhi has also penned the story and dialogues of Pen Singam.
The film has Meera Jasmine and Uday Kiran in lead roles. The DMK MP and actor JK Riteesh dons the greasepaint for a very important role and so is the film’s producer Jayamurugan.
“Aaha veenaiyil ezhuvadhu venu ganama? Thiruvaduthuraiyin Thodi ragama…” These are the starting lines of a song penned by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for the film ‘Pen Singam’, based on one of his novels.
Says the movie’s director Bali Srirangam, “when we asked Kalaignar to pen lyrics for a duet, he immediately accepted the request and to our surprise, he completed the task in 10 minutes. Everyone including music composer Deva and producer Arumuganeri S P Murugesan were awestruck by it.”
“Apart from Kalaignar, other poets including Vaali, Vairamuthu and Pa Vijay have also contributed for the film. Forty per cent of the shoot is over and we are happy with the outcome so far,” he adds.
With Tollywood actor Udaykiran ad Meera Jasmine in lead roles, ‘Pen Singam’ is based on Karunanidhi’s novel ‘Surulimalai’, which he wrote nearly four decades ago. “The script is classic as well as contemporary,” says Bali Srirangam.
Lakshmi Rai ignores pains and dances to perfection
Though Lakshmi Rai has everything including the right figure and beauty to make it big in tinsel town, the luck factor seems to be the minus point for her. She had been part of some successful films in the past but hasn’t had a single sole hit as a heroine. Now, to gain some attention from the fans, she has decided to dance for an item song for the film “Penn Singam”, for which Kalaignar is penning the story and dialogues.
Laskhmi will shake her (sexy) legs along with choreographer-turned-actor Raghava Lawrence. The song writer by veteran lyricist Vaali, was filmed at Koodapakkam near Tirumazhisai.
Director Bali Srirangam wanted to can the song in 4-5 days’ time which made Lakshmi rehearse for the song on an urgent basis. During the rehearsal, Lakshmi had to jump off a small podium to the floor and in the process she broke the small bone on the thumb finger of her right foot. Laskshmi took pain-killer tablets, applied some ointment and after resting her foot for a few hours, returned back to dancing thereby flooring the entire Unit with her dedication and professionalism!
The film stars Uday Kiran and Meera Jasmine in the lead besides Rambha and J.K. Riteish, the start-turned-politician who is a Member of Parliament now. Bali had earlier worked with directors like Parthiban. Devaa scores the music for the film, for which Kalaignar, Vaali, and Vairamuthu have penned the lyrics.
